Volunteer

Larchwood Nature OT Volunteers

We provide hands-on experience to all our volunteers. You will be paired with one of our talented occupational therapists and can see the nature OT benefits for yourself!

Volunteer Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children

  • A Vulnerable Sector Screening [police check]

  • Commitment to either of the following programs:

    • An 8 week Nature OT group session. These sessions occur weekly on Saturday mornings for up to 3 hours. Sessions take place in East Toronto and occasionally in Markdale, ON.

    • A 1-week Larchwood Farm Nature camp session (minimum 3 hours/day). The camp is located in Markdale, Ontario. Camps run in July and August. Accommodation may be available.

  • First Aid and CPR certification (preferred)

  • Letters of reference will only be provided after completing a minimum of 15 hours of volunteering.

Support Workers Needed

We are also looking for support workers who are interested in supporting a child 1:1 in our various programs.

This is a great opportunity for high school graduates and university students interested in pursuing a field related to working with children with disabilities!

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with children with disabilities

  • Grade 12 diploma

  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C

  • Vulnerable Sector Screening [police check]

  • Able to commit to a minimum, 1 week of camp at Larchwood Farm, 9am-4pm or to a weekly program.

As a Support Worker, we will pair you with one of our children, to provide them with support for their time in our programs. The ideal support worker will be able to:

  • Support children and youth with physical, developmental and/ or emotional/ behavioural disabilities

  • Understand behaviour management interventions and strategies

  • Maintain a high level of safety supervision

  • Work collaboratively with the other team members.

*Please note: The Support Worker position has the potential to be a paid position, depending on the child’s funding resources*
