What happens at the first appointment?

During the first appointment, we will gather information about your current health, treatments, symptoms, functional status, income sources (EI Sick, Short Term Disability, etc.) education and employment history. Together we will prioritize what area of your life we should target first and build some goals.

We may also use standardized measures or screening tools to understand your symptoms better.

How often will I have an appointment?

This varies from person to person but in most cases clients are seen on a weekly basis at first and then we try to move to every other week. This allows you time to work on different strategies in your everyday life and then report back.

Do therapists ever see people in person?

Yes - for ergonomic assessments we will meet you at your home or office and spend an hour going through all the pieces of your workstation. Exercises will be demonstrated, measurements will be taken if you need some new equipment and proper positioning will be modelled.

Throughout the year we also offer specialty groups for Adults. These are often a combination of in person sessions and virtual sessions.

All virtual appointments take place virtually on a secure video conferencing platform, called Jane.

Some extended health insurance plans will provide coverage for OT and SW services. If services are not covered clients are encouraged to contact their employer and the insurance company through which their policy is held. Here is a sample letter to employer and sample letter to insurance company that may be used to advocate for OT or SW coverage.

We ask that you pay for your service following an appointment using a valid credit card. A receipt will then be emailed to you and then you can submit it to your insurance plan.

How are OT and SW paid for? Do I pay out of pocket?

Absolutely! There are many delays in the current healthcare system if you are looking for a formal assessment and diagnosis. At Davis OT we believe that there are actions that you can take immediately if you are struggling with a certain aspect of your life. We do not need a physician referral or diagnosis to start putting together a plan and trying out some new strategies. So don’t delay - book a discovery call today to find the right therapist.

I don’t have an ADHD diagnosis but I’m pretty sure that I have it. Can I still see an OT or SW?
